Removal of Dead Animals

In the interest of protecting the health and safety of citizens in the County, the Road Department provides removal of deceased wild animals from the public right-of-way throughout the unincorporated area of Comal County.

In order to pick up a dead animal, we will need to know:

  • An accurate location (including address, intersection, or landmarks)
  • Whether it is on the road, the right-of-way, or on private property
  • What kind of animal it is

In addition to removal of dead animals from the public right-of-way, the Road Department also picks up animals animals that have died on private property, in some situations. Removal of a deceased animal from private property is solely at the discretion of Comal County.

Comal County reserves the right to refuse disposal of livestock and all domesticated animal "pets". In addition, the property owner must be present at the time of pick up in order to sign a release form.

Order 91 - Order for the Removal of Dead Wildlife

Liability and safety issues do not allow county personnel to remove dead animals from within or under a privately owned structure.
